All India Inter University Fencing Championship 2024-25 begins at JU

JAMMU: The All India Inter University Fencing (Men & Women) Championship 2024-25, organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu commenced on Wednesday at the University Gymnasium Hall, after it was declared open by Prof. Meena Sharma, Dean Planning, University of Jammu amidst large number of gathering of dignitaries, players of different Universities, officials, employees and students of the University as well as the people from the civil society.

Shiv Kumar, DIG J&K Police Jammu was the Special Guest of the function whereas Rashid Ahmed Choudhary International Referee & Competition Director of this event was the Guests of Honour.
Krishan Kumar High Performance Manager Fencing (SAI) New Delhi and Dr. Deepak Singh Patyal Chief Coach SAI, NCOE Patiala were also the guests on the Dias.
The Association of Indian Universities has entrusted with the responsibility to University of Jammu, for hosting the All India Inter University Fencing (Men & Women) Championship 2024-25 from November 6 to 10, 2024 in which 103 teams from the various Universities across the Nation in Men & Women section are participating.
More than 1200 players from different universities of India are going to compete in this mega Event.
While addressing the gathering Prof. Meena Sharma congratulated the organizers for organizing such type of Sports events, which will provide an opportunity to the students of the various Universities to come closer to each other besides showing their Sports talent.
She also appreciated the mass participation of the players and officials accompanying their teams of the various Universities.
Shiv Kumar Sharma in his address said that the University of Jammu is organizing various Sports activities to engage the energy of the youth in a positive manner. Sports and games help in large muscle co-ordination resulting in physical fitness apart from inculcating sportsmanship, leadership, unity, competitive spirit among the students. While addressing he stressed upon that sports and games are the only sources that can eliminate the drugs and bad evils from the youth of the society. Shiv Kumar Sharma in his address also highlighted the development of sports in terms of infrastructure and performance during the last few years.
Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented the formal welcome address and briefed about the Championship.
Dr Baba also emphasised that Sports and games impart a sense of discipline, fellow-feeling and togetherness. Sports and games are the right avenues to channelize the energy and vitality of students in a positive direction. He highlighted the features of the fencing game in his address. He also promised that University of Jammu will be front runner in nourishing the talent of the sportsperson who will ultimately make the Jammu as well the nation proud.
An impressive demonstration of fencing game was also conducted by the fencer during the inaugural ceremony of this mega event. The proceedings of the function were conducted Vandna Sharma and Lakshika Jamwal.
The vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Komal Nagar, Assistant Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Others present on the occasion were Dr. Imran Farooq, Dr. Akhilesh Sharma, Irfan Goni, Vimal Kishore, Vikas Karlopia, Ravish Vaid, Gagan Kumar, Shamsher Singh, Jai Bharat, P.D Singh, Sumeet Kumar, Harinderpal Singh, Inderjeet Singh, Sanjeev Kumar, Ashok Singh Bali, Richa Mandla, Manjeet Kotwal and officials of the participating teams.
