Days after a man, who went missing from his home in Ahmedabad’s Naroda in October, was presumed dead by his family, he showed up at his own memorial service on November 14 in a bizarre incident.
A native of Mehsana district, Brijesh Balwantbhai Suthar, 43, is a businessman. His family revealed that he had gone missing amid a struggle with mental health issues due to financial stress.
He did not return after leaving home on the afternoon of October 27. “When he did not come back and his mobile remained unreachable, we got worried and registered a complaint with the police station in Naroda. Eventually, an FIR was filed,” his uncle Kishorbhai Suthar
Police wanted the family to identify the body. Brijesh’s brother-in-law and a few other relatives reached Ahmedabad from Vijapur.
“As the body was decomposed and a post-mortem was performed, the family members mistakenly identified it to be that of Brijesh. We performed the last rites in Vijapur the same day, and a besna (mourning service) was held on November 14,” Kishorbhai added.
But when Brijesh Suthar returned to his home when his memorial service was being held, the family was, as expected, left astonished.
Police confirmed that the unidentified body found from Sabarmati river was handed over to the Suthars. Naroda police has reopened the death case to investigate the details of the body.
