Through the memorandums, ABVP raised serious concerns over the lack of higher education facilities at the University of Jammu’s Kishtwar Campus, stating that the campus presently does not offer basic Post-Graduate programmes in subjects such as History, Political Science, Sociology, English and Economics. The student body pointed out that due to the absence of these courses, students from rural and remote areas are compelled to travel nearly 200 kilometres to other districts for higher studies, leading to financial strain, safety issues and an increase in dropout rates.

The delegation further stated that every year more than 10,000 students graduate from degree colleges across Kishtwar district, including Government Degree College Kishtwar, GDC Chatroo, GDC Paddar and GDC Marwah. However, owing to the non-availability of PG and Integrated UG–PG programmes at the Kishtwar Campus, a large number of deserving students are forced to discontinue their education. ABVP emphasized that while Integrated UG–PG programmes have been introduced at other University of Jammu campuses, Kishtwar continues to remain deprived, resulting in academic disparity.

ABVP also expressed concern over the recent University of Jammu advertisements for Assistant Professor and Associate Professor posts, stating that while faculty positions were advertised for various campuses, not a single post was sanctioned for the Kishtwar Campus. The student organization said this has adversely impacted academic growth and has further delayed the initiation of PG programmes at the campus.

In their memorandums, ABVP demanded the immediate introduction of basic PG courses in key subjects, approval of Integrated UG–PG programmes, and sanctioning along with advertisement of regular faculty posts for the Kishtwar Campus. The delegation urged the district administration and university authorities to address these demands at the earliest in the larger interest of students and in consonance with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020.

ABVP Kishtwar reaffirmed its commitment to continue raising student-centric issues through democratic means until tangible steps are taken to strengthen higher education facilities in the district.
