New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday (September 2) under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
His arrest comes hours after Khan claimed that a team from the ED had reached his house in Delhi to arrest him.
According to PTI, the money laundering case against Khan stems from two FIRs. One was registered by the CBI and deals with alleged Waqf Board-related irregularities and the other was registered by Delhi’s anti-corruption bureau and deals with his alleged disproportionate assets.
The news agency earlier reported that teams from the Delhi police and the Central Reserve Police Force were deployed at Khan’s residence.
In a video posted on X on Monday morning, Khan said that the ED had come to arrest him.
Khan added that he had been replying to all of the ED’s notices but that the central agency had come to arrest him anyway.
In another video posted on X, Khan is seen telling an official that his mother-in-law recently underwent surgery and that he had asked for four weeks’ time on account of that.
“My mother-in-law has undergone an operation. What are you here to search for? What do I have?” Khan is heard saying .
AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia slammed the ED over the incident.
“This bullying will cost the BJP’s people dearly. You will lose badly in Delhi. [Khan] has been forcibly arrested without any evidence,” Singh said on X.
Sisodia said that the ED’s “only remaining work” was to “suppress every voice raised against the BJP”. He added that those who did not break were arrested and sent to jail.
