Prayagraj,Jan 23 (UNI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh visited the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, and expressed his full support for controversial seer Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati.
Speaking to the media on Friday after meeting the seer, Singh said the greatest misfortune was that the Shankaracharya was being asked to prove his identity. “Those who have not been able to show their own degrees are demanding proof from the Shankaracharya,” he remarked.
He strongly criticized the Yogi Adityanath government, alleging that a 90-year-old man was dragged and beaten, and that his disciples were also assaulted. The Shankaracharya was reportedly prevented from taking a holy dip.
Singh blamed the “dictatorial government and administration” for the controversy and questioned whether a Prime Minister, Chief Minister, police commissioner, or revenue officer should decide who qualifies as a Shankaracharya.
He demanded that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath apologize for the incident. (Agencies)
