Actor Aamir Khan is making efforts to fix his relationship with his daughter Ira Khan. He recently revealed that they are taking joint therapy together to amend the problems between them. In a clip shared by Netflix India, Aamir made an appearance with his daughter Ira and Dr. Vivek Murthy to have a conversation about mental health.
He said, “Therapy is so helpful. I think she (Ira) pushed me down that path. I would strongly recommend therapy to anyone who feels the need for it? It has been helpful for me. In fact, Ira and I also have started joint therapy. The two of us go to a therapist for our own relationship. To work on how to make that better and issues which have been there for over years.” Following which, Ira shared that it is vital because working on your relationship with parents is also very important.
In the same session, Aamir also talked about the benefits of therapy. He said, “Therapy is a very powerful thing. I’m a fairly intelligent guy. I can think things through. I’m a sensible guy. If there’s an issue, I can sort it out for myself. But no, I can’t. It doesn’t matter how intelligent you are. It doesn’t matter how worldly-wise you are. We know so little about our minds… That a person who has a lot more knowledge and has got the basics right really helps you in leaps and bounds to understand it. In India, a lot of us feel if I go for therapy, I have a mental problem. I don’t want people to know I’m going for therapy. But it is okay need help. I have benefited greatly from therapy.”
Earlier, in a candid conversation with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, the Dangal actor had opened up about his regret of being absent from his children’s lives. He had shared, “Ira was struggling with depression at the time, she is much better now. But then she needed me. Junaid is starting his career. He has lived his life without me. And now, perhaps he is taking the last big step in his life, towards his career. If I am not with him at this time, then what’s the point? Azad is 9 years now. In another 3 years, he will be a teenager. His childhood won’t come back.”
For the unfamiliar, Ira is Aamir’s daughter with his first wife Reena Dutta, who are also parents to son Junaid Khan. With his second wife Kiran Rao, the actor has a son named Azad Rao Khan. Aamir and Reena got divorced in 2002 and with Kiran in 2021.
