New Delhi: The armed forces are reportedly considering changes to the Agnipath recruitment framework, which could provide Agniveers with an opportunity to join the Army, Navy and Air Force as regular soldiers.

However, the proposed overhaul does not indicate a return to the pre-Covid system of regular military recruitment, under which candidates were directly recruited into permanent service in larger numbers.

Under the Agnipath scheme, introduced in 2022, recruits serve for four years, with a provision for up to 25 per cent of each batch to be retained in regular service, subject to organisational requirements and selection criteria.

The reported changes have brought renewed attention to the future of military recruitment, retention policies and career opportunities for young aspirants seeking permanent positions in the armed forces.
