Assam CM Apologises After Ambulance Halted for Convoy in Silchar, Four Cops Suspended

Silchar, Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma apologised to a patient and the patient’s family after an ambulance was halted in Silchar to allow his convoy to pass. Sarma described the incident as “unacceptable” and ordered an inquiry, directing officials to take action against those responsible.

Four Assam Police personnel were subsequently suspended pending a departmental inquiry into alleged negligence of duty.

Following the incident, the Assam government also reiterated instructions to district authorities and senior police officials that ambulances and other emergency vehicles must not be obstructed during VIP convoy movements. The guidelines state that the Chief Minister’s convoy may be paused when necessary to allow emergency vehicles to pass.
