Baramulla, Jun 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board has announced that it will take up full reconstruction and restoration work of the historic Hazrat Syed Jaanbaz Wali (RA) Dargah at Khanpora in Baramulla. The announcement was made by Waqf Board Chairperson Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi during her visit to the site on Friday.
Dr. Andrabi carried out an on-the-spot inspection of the ongoing Heritage Restoration and Conservation Project being implemented by the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K.
Officials said the visit came after repeated representations from local residents and devotees, who raised concerns that certain important components were missing from the original restoration plan. The issue was brought to the Chairperson’s attention seeking immediate intervention.
After a detailed assessment of the site and consideration of public sentiments, Dr. Andrabi announced that the reconstruction of the main sanctum along with all remaining and left-out components, as well as additional conservation works, would be undertaken immediately by the Waqf Board.
She assured that the project would be executed while maintaining the spiritual sanctity, heritage importance, and religious significance of the Dargah, while also addressing the aspirations of devotees and stakeholders.
The announcement was welcomed by locals and devotees, who expressed gratitude for what they described as a timely and sensitive intervention. They called it a balanced step between heritage conservation and public expectations.
Earlier, the Waqf Board Chairperson also chaired a review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Baramulla to review the progress of the project. Senior officials from the district administration, R&B Department, and Waqf Board engineering wing attended the meeting.
