Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Shahzad Alam visited the accident-prone Manigam Crossing on National Highway-44 to review road safety measures and assess the situation on ground.
During the visit, he interacted with local residents who raised concerns over frequent accidents and demanded construction of a dedicated service road between Manigam Crossing and Nipora Crossing to improve traffic flow and commuter safety.
The DC directed concerned engineering departments to carry out a detailed feasibility study and submit a proposal for the development of the service road. He also stressed immediate interim measures such as improved signage, road markings, speed regulation, and enhanced visibility to reduce accident risks.
He assured the public that priority action would be taken to ensure safer and smoother movement of traffic along the highway stretch.
Senior officials from R&B, NHAI, and district administration accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the inspection.
