DHJ Gul Syed inspects horticulture farms, orchard projects in Ramban

Director stresses quality planting material, modern horticulture practices and high-density plantations

JAMMU, MAY 11: Director Horticulture Jammu Gul Syed on Monday visited the Horticulture Farm in Ramban district to review ongoing horticulture activities and assess development initiatives aimed at boosting fruit cultivation in the region.

The Director was accompanied by Chief Horticulture Officer Rajinder Kumar, Assistant Director Sunil Gupta, Farm Manager Pardeep Dingra, and other officers and officials of the Horticulture Department.

During the visit, Gul Syed directed officers to ensure the availability of quality planting material and emphasised the promotion and propagation of strawberry and blueberry crops. He also discussed measures for enrichment and improvement of horticulture farms.

Later, the Director visited Chenab Valley Farm at Chambalwas in the presence of Zubir Sohal, where an awareness camp was organised with participation of around 80 farmers.

Addressing the participants, the Director highlighted the benefits of various departmental schemes and stressed the importance of plantation during the rainy season. He identified additional areas suitable for Ultra High-Density Plantation and called for focused promotion of Chandler walnut varieties.

The Director also discussed schemes including HADP, ATMA, CSS, and other horticulture initiatives, besides emphasising processing and value addition for the benefit of farmers and orchardists.

The awareness session included discussions on modern horticulture practices aimed at enhancing productivity and improving farmers’ income.

The team later visited the Government Fruit Plant Nursery at Nogam, Banihal, where the Director reviewed plant stocks and instructed officials to develop mother blocks with special focus on establishing a Kiwi mother block.
