MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi Visits Breach Sites in Budgam, Reviews Flood Safety Measures

Srinagar MP inspects restoration works at Sumerbugh and Shalina, assures close monitoring

Budgam, May 08: Member of Parliament for Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi today visited the breach sites at Sumerbugh and Shalina areas of Budgam district to assess damage caused by recent water level fluctuations and review restoration and flood protection measures.

During the visit, the MP inspected vulnerable stretches where embankments of the Jhelum River and its flood spill channels had suffered breaches. He reviewed the ongoing restoration works and interacted with local residents and delegations, who projected various public concerns and demands before him.

Aga Syed Ruhullah directed the concerned officers to accelerate restoration works and ensure that breaches are plugged using modern engineering standards for long-term stability and protection. He also called for comprehensive reinforcement of vulnerable embankments along the Sumerbugh and Shalina axis.

The MP instructed the departments to maintain constant vigilance over water levels and regularly monitor the structural integrity of embankments to prevent future risks.

Assuring local residents of full support, Aga Syed Ruhullah said he would personally monitor the progress of restoration works to ensure timely completion and public safety.

During the tour, he also inspected the Sempor–Seerbagh Bridge project and was briefed by officials regarding its financial and physical progress.

The MP was accompanied by the SDM Chadoora, Executive Engineers from the Flood and Irrigation Department, BDO B.K. Pora, and other concerned officials.
