Central and north Kashmir may witness light to moderate rain with a few heavy spells, while higher reaches are expected to receive moderate to heavy snowfall, he added.

Gusty winds, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms are also likely across both divisions. The system is expected to stay active till the afternoon of April 9, with gradual improvement thereafter.

Earlier, Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department Srinagar, said intermittent light to moderate rain is expected from Tuesday forenoon to Wednesday evening, while higher reaches may receive light to moderate snowfall.

He said some places across both divisions may witness moderate to heavy rainfall.

The weather department has issued an advisory warning of thunderstorms, hailstorms and gusty winds reaching 40–50 km/h on April 7 and 8.

“Short spells of intense rainfall may trigger flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas, along with waterlogging in low-lying regions, particularly along Zojila Pass and Mughal Road,” the official said.

From April 9 to 10, isolated light rain and snowfall over higher reaches are likely, while conditions are expected to remain mostly dry from April 11 to 16, although brief afternoon showers cannot be ruled out, officials added. (Agency)
