Srinagar, Mar 24 : With Jammu and Kashmir set to witness a surge in tourist arrivals in the coming weeks, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan on Monday directed the UT administration to ensure robust and foolproof security arrangements at all tourist destinations across the region.
Official sources told that the Home Secretary chaired a high-level review meeting via video conferencing, stressing the need to strengthen the security grid around major tourist hotspots to prevent any untoward incidents and provide a safe environment for visitors.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, along with other senior police and intelligence officials. It focused on reviewing the overall security situation, particularly in view of the upcoming tourist season, sources said.
The Home Secretary directed authorities to maintain heightened vigilance at key tourist destinations, including Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg and other prominent locations, to avoid any repeat of incidents that could impact tourism.
Officials also briefed him on ongoing anti-terror operations in forest and mountainous areas, noting that a coordinated strategy involving the Army, paramilitary forces, J&K Police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) is being implemented to ensure stability.
Govind Mohan emphasised the importance of proactive measures, close monitoring and seamless coordination among all agencies to maintain peace and stability, especially in tourist-heavy areas, sources added. (Agency)
