SRINAGAR: The Odisha government has appointed former DGP Rashmi Ranjan Swain as the first chairperson of the Odisha Uniformed Services Staff Selection Commission, a newly created body that will oversee recruitment for the state’s uniformed services.
The commission has been set up to streamline and bring greater transparency to the recruitment process for posts in the police, excise, and other uniformed departments.
Swain, a native of Rourkela and a 1991-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, served as the Director General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir and handled several key security responsibilities in the Union Territory before retiring from service.
The OUSSSC was approved by the Odisha Cabinet in November 2025 amid concerns over delays and alleged irregularities in recruitment, including the sub-inspector recruitment scam. The new commission will replace several departmental recruitment boards with a single centralized system aimed at ensuring merit-based, technology-driven, and timely selections. (Agencies)
