Dry Weather Likely Across Jammu and Kashmir Till February 26: MeT Department

MeT forecasts mostly stable conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, light snowfall likely over isolated higher reaches on select days

Srinagar, Feb 16: The Meteorological Department on Monday said that Jammu and Kashmir is expected to experience largely dry and stable weather conditions till February 26, with no significant rain or snowfall forecast during this period.

Director MeT Srinagar, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said the overall weather across the Union Territory will remain mostly calm, except for brief spells of light snowfall over isolated higher reaches on specific days.

As per the forecast, there is a possibility of light snow over isolated higher altitudes on February 17. From February 18 to 24, weather conditions are likely to remain predominantly dry.

On February 25 and 26, skies may turn partly to generally cloudy. Between February 27 and 28, the weather is expected to stay partly to generally cloudy, with chances of light rain or snow over isolated higher areas, especially towards the evening or night of February 28.

For March 1 and 2, the MeT department has predicted generally cloudy conditions with light snowfall at isolated higher elevations.

The department has advised farmers to continue their agricultural activities as the weather remains favourable. It also stated that both minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to see a gradual rise across most parts of the region over the coming week.

Residents, particularly those in snow-bound and higher areas, have been cautioned against venturing into avalanche-prone and steep slopes as a precautionary measure. (Agencies)
