GUWAHATI, Feb 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday made a historic landing at the Northeast’s first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) aboard a C-130J aircraft in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
After arriving at the Chabua airfield, the Prime Minister took off and landed at the ELF in Moran, built on a stretch of National Highway-37.
The ₹100-crore facility, a 4.2-km reinforced stretch on the Moran Bypass inaugurated by the Prime Minister, will serve as a strategic and multi-functional runway for Indian Air Force fighter jets and transport aircraft, boosting defence preparedness, logistics, and disaster response capabilities, officials said.
Designed for both civil and military use, the facility will also function as an alternative to Dibrugarh Airport during emergencies, they added. (Agencies)
