Jammu, Feb 07: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said the government has no immediate plans to create new administrative units in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the Legislative Assembly, Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Revenue portfolio, said the focus is on properly operationalising the existing administrative units in the Union Territory. He noted that several of these units are yet to be fully functional and lack basic infrastructure and adequate staffing.
“The units that have already been created need to be made fully operational. MLAs often raise concerns that many administrative units do not even have offices or basic facilities. Both things cannot go on simultaneously,” he said, according to news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
The Chief Minister added that the government’s priority is to strengthen the existing setup. “Once these units are fully operational, only then will the need for new administrative units, if any, be examined,” he said. (Agencies)
