The confirmation came through Government Order No. 109-JK (GAD) of 2026, issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) and dated January 24, 2026, following the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

The order has been issued in continuation of Government Order No. 1783-JK (GAD) of 2024 dated October 16, 2024, under which Shri Nasir Aslam Wani was initially appointed as Advisor to the Chief Minister. However, the formal notification regarding his rank, status, and service conditions remained pending for over 15 months, finally receiving the LG’s approval now.

According to the order, Shri Nasir Aslam Wani shall enjoy the rank and protocol equivalent to that of a Cabinet Minister in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Terms and Conditions of Appointment

The government order clearly lays down the following terms and conditions governing his appointment:
• Salary: A consolidated remuneration of ₹80,000 (Rupees Eighty Thousand) per month
• Transport: Official vehicle to be provided by the Motor Garages Department
• Residential Accommodation: Rent-free accommodation to be provided by the Estates Department at Jammu and Srinagar
• Feeding Department: The Chief Minister’s Secretariat shall act as the feeding department

The order has been issued “By Order of the Lieutenant Governor” and is signed by M. Raju, IAS, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, GAD.

Delay Draws Attention

The more than 15-month delay in notifying the Cabinet rank and service conditions had drawn attention in political and administrative circles, as Shri Wani continued to function as Advisor without a formal notification defining his status, privileges, and entitlements during this period.

The issuance of the latest order has now put to rest all ambiguity surrounding his position in the government hierarchy.

Copies of the order have been forwarded to all senior constitutional authorities, including the Director General of Police, Chief Electoral Officer, Principal Secretaries, Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Heads of Departments, and other concerned offices for information and necessary action.

The confirmation marks a significant administrative development in the Chief Minister’s advisory setup and formally integrates Shri Nasir Aslam Wani into the top decision-making echelon of the Jammu and Kashmir government.
