The government has announced winter vacations for students up to Class 8 from December 1 in the winter zone of the Kashmir division. It also stated that vacations for Classes 9 to 12 will begin from the second week of December.

Education Minister Sakina Itoo told reporters, “The proposal for winter vacations up to Class 8 has been approved, and the break will begin from December 1.”

She added, “For other classes up to Class 12, the vacations will likely begin from December 12 or December 13.”

Earlier, the Minister had indicated that the winter break for students up to the middle classes was expected to start in the first week of December due to falling temperatures. She noted that parents had repeatedly requested an early announcement of the schedule, saying the winter season becomes difficult for younger children.

Itoo also said, “We have already conducted a meeting regarding the winter break and have tentatively decided that lower classes, from Class 1 up to the middle grade, will probably observe the vacation from the first week of December.”

On the issue of textbooks, the Minister said, “We have streamlined the matter to a large extent. Directions have been issued to ensure there is no shortage of books or uniforms.”  (Sources)
