In a significant relief to thousands of students, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has announced a 15% relaxation in the syllabus for students of Classes 10, 11, and 12 appearing in the upcoming Annual Regular 2025 examinations (October–November session).

The relaxation will be applicable to students from the Kashmir Division, Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division, and the Union Territory of Ladakh. The decision comes in response to widespread appeals from students, parents, and education stakeholders, citing academic disruptions due to delayed commencement of the session, heatwaves, torrential rains, cloudbursts, and flooding.

As per the official notification issued by the Director Academics, JKBOSE, students will be required to attempt only 85% of the total marks in each subject. This will be treated as 100% during evaluation, effectively allowing a 15% relaxation in the syllabus. However, the question papers will be based on the entire prescribed syllabus.

“The question papers shall be set from the complete syllabus, but students will have the option to attempt questions amounting to only 85% of the total marks,” the notification reads. “This will be facilitated through internal choice.”

Additionally, each Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) attempted by students will be marked individually, and this format will also apply to the Grammar section in language papers.

The move is being widely welcomed as a student-friendly step aimed at addressing the academic challenges faced during the current academic year.

Educational institutions and teachers across the region have been advised to guide students accordingly and help them strategize their preparations based on the revised pattern.

The decision reflects JKBOSE’s continued efforts to ensure academic equity and flexibility in response to on-ground realities affecting student learning.
