lucknow: In a horrific incident, the body of a 15-year-old boy who got trapped in a harvester while working on a farm and died was discovered chopped into 17 pieces and buried separately to conceal the crime. The boy, a resident of Bahraich Gayatri Nagar, was missing for 10 days. The accused, Sanjay Verma (24) and Lavkush (18), were arrested on Monday.
Bahraich SP Vrinda Shukla said that on December 6, Vikram was assisting Sanjay Verma with fieldwork. While operating the tractor, Vikram fell and got trapped in the harvester, sustaining critical injuries. Instead of helping him, the accused dragged the injured boy away, using the harvester to dismember him while he was still alive. His body parts were buried across the field, and his clothes and shoes were dumped in a nearby pond to destroy evidence.
On December 9, Vikramâs family filed a missing personâs report after unsuccessful searches. Investigations led by CO Harshita Tiwari took a critical turn on December 15 when Vikramâs clothes and shoes were found near a pond. Acting on this clue, the police arrested Sanjay and Lavkush.
During interrogation, the duo confessed to the crime. Police spent an entire day digging the field, recovering 17 pieces of Vikramâs body. The remains were sent for DNA testing to confirm the identity, and a postmortem examination is underway.
Police have pressed charges of murder and tampering with evidence against the accused. The SP emphasised that the police would request fast-tracking the case to ensure maximum punishment. âThis heinous crime demands the strictest legal action, and we are committed to ensuring justice for the victimâs family,â she said.
