Former Maharashtra minister and NCP (SP) leader Anil Deshmukh was injured in an attack in Katol city in Nagpur district of Maharashtra on Monday.
The incident unfolded earlier this evening around 8 pm when a group of people pelted stones at Deshmukh’s car while he was returning to Katol after attending a meeting in Narkhed village.
Some unidentified persons threw stones at Deshmukh’s car near Belphata on the Jalalkheda Road injuring him. The local police have arrived on the scene and are investigating the incident.
NCP (SP) leader Anil Deshmukh alleged that some people pelted stones at his car on Katol Jalalkheda Road in Katol Assembly Constituency. Police said that the former minister was immediately rushed to the Katol Civil Hospital.
Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police, Harssh Poddar, confirmed the incident. He said senior officers were rushed to the spot and an investigation has started. Meanwhile, police are trying to identify those responsible for the attack.
Anil Deshmukh’s son Salil is contesting the election from the Katol seat on NCP Sharad Pawar’s ticket.
