A fire broke out overnight in a commercial-cum-residential building in the Batergam area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Officials told the media that the blaze erupted late on Thursday evening in the building at Batergam. A team from the police and Fire & Emergency Services promptly reached the spot and managed to bring the flames under control. During the operation, a fireman, identified as Abdul Qayoom, sustained minor injuries.
The incident damaged a double-storey commercial-cum-residential structure housing seven hardware shops on the ground floor, along with four residential rooms and two hardware shops on the first floor.
A single-storey structure with two rooms used as a bedding manufacturing unit was also affected, in addition to a single-storey shopping row with three shops. (Agencies)
