The Health and Medical Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has issued fresh instructions making it compulsory for all doctors and paramedical staff to wear white aprons and clearly visible name plates during duty hours in all government healthcare institutions across the Union Territory.
The directive, issued through a circular from the Civil Secretariat, comes in response to growing instances of non-compliance with existing uniform and identification norms in various medical facilities.
The department noted that the failure to follow these norms was causing inconvenience to patients, particularly in identifying healthcare personnel.
“All doctors—including those working under NHM and Ayush—and paramedical staff are hereby directed to wear proper white aprons and prominently display name plates bearing their full name and designation at all times during duty hours,” the circular states.
To ensure implementation, heads of institutions, medical superintendents, and chief medical officers have been directed to strictly enforce the order in their respective facilities.
The move is aimed at enhancing accountability, professionalism, and patient confidence in public healthcare services. (Agencies)
