New Delhi: The Haryana police have arrested five cow vigilantes for allegedly shooting dead a class 12 student on August 23.
According to the police, the accused chased the car in which the class 12 student was travelling before shooting him, mistaking the boy for cattle smuggler,
The five accused have been identified as Saurabh, Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna and Adesh, the police said.
The accused revealed during interrogation that on the night of August 23, they had received information that some suspected cattle smugglers in two SUVs were doing recce in the city.
The cow vigilantes mistook the victim, Aryan Mishra, and his friends, Shanky and Harshit, for cattle smugglers. Later, they followed their car for about 30 kilometres near the Gadhpuri toll on the Delhi-Agra National Highway, a senior police officer said,
When the accused asked the victim’s car to stop, the driver accelerated, which led to the cow vigilantes opening fire, and Mishra’s death after being shot near Palwal, said the police.
