“On 25 April 2025, based on specific intelligence input, a Joint Search Operation was launched in the general area of Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora. Contact was established, and a firefight ensued,” the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army confirmed in a post on X. Two security personnel were injured in the exchange. Further details are awaited as the operation continues.

Meanwhile, on the same day, an Army soldier succumbed to injuries sustained during an encounter with terrorists in the Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. Police reported that a joint operation had been initiated based on credible intelligence. The soldier was critically wounded in the initial exchange of gunfire and later succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts.

In a related development, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is scheduled to visit Srinagar on Friday to review the prevailing security situation in the Union Territory in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack.

The April 22 attack on tourists in Baisaran meadow, Pahalgam, claimed 26 lives—including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen—and left several others injured. The attack has triggered nationwide outrage and demands for firm action against Pakistan for its alleged support to cross-border terrorism.

In response, the Indian government announced a series of diplomatic measures, including the immediate closure of the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Attari, suspension of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals, and a reduction in diplomatic staff at both Indian and Pakistani High Commissions.

Public protests have erupted across the country as the nation mourns the victims and calls for stronger counter-terror measures.
