In a concerning incident, a woman who suffered a heart-attack died at a private hospital due to alleged medical negligence in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district. It is learnt that the on-duty doctor didn’t attend the woman as he was watching reels on social media and instead directed his subordinates to check the patient.
The deceased, identified as Pravesh Kumari, complained of severe chest pain following which her son, Gurusharan Singh, rushed her to the district hospital where Dr Adarsh Sengar was on duty.
The alleged incident was reported on Tuesday at Maharaja Tej Singh District Hospital in the district, according to a report in India Today. The incident has sparked outrage amongst the patient’s family members. The whole incident was captured on CCTV installed at hospital premises.
Woman’s Death Sparks Outrage
Gurusharan accused the doctor of medical negligence and slapping him after her mother died.
“When my mother’s condition worsened, we created a scene out of desperation. Annoyed, Dr Sengar finally got up but, instead of helping, he slapped me in frustration. By then, my mother had already died,” India Today quoted Gurusharan as saying.
The CCTV video shows the woman in pain and discomfort lying on a bed with a group of men, including her son, around her. The patient was initially catered by nurses but she got no relief as she remained restless. As this happens, the on-duty doctor remained seated, appearing busy with his phone.
As the women’s situation worsened, people started panicking but the doctor showed no signs of sympathy as he kept engaging with his phone.
A few minutes later, the woman stopped responding, triggering panic among the attendees. After witnessing the situation, the doctor finally came but instead of check the woman first, he engaged in an altercation with the attendees. When the woman’s son protested his actions of negligence, the doctor even slapped him, leading to a fight among them.
As chaos prevailed, a heavy police force was rushed to the hospital to bring the situation un der control. Soon after, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Madan Lal also arrived at the scene.
“CCTV footage is being checked. If the allegations are found to be true, strict departmental action will be taken against the doctor,” Madan Lal told India Today, adding a thorough investigation will be done in the case.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered in this regard. Further investigation into the matter is underway. More details are awaited.
