20 people killed in a suicide bombing that strikes the Russian embassy in Kabul

Kabul, 5 Sept: A bomb exploded outside the Russian Embassy in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Monday, killing two embassy employees and at least one civilian, according to a Russian state news agency and a local police official.

A higher death toll was expected, with conflicting reports claiming up to 20 deaths.

According to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, an explosion occurred when a Russian diplomat approached people waiting outside to call out the names of visa applicants. The agency later reported that two members of the embassy staff were killed, citing Moscow’s Foreign Ministry. According to Khalid Zadran, a spokesman for the Kabul police chief, at least one civilian was killed and ten others were injured.
